Firework Safety for New Year’s Eve Celebrations

(Dawson County, GA) "Don't put your home or children at risk; use extreme caution when handling fireworks,” urges Dawson County Deputy Chief Tim Satterfield.
In 2006, fireworks caused an estimated 32,600 reported fires, including 1,700 total structure fires, 600 vehicle fires, and 30,300 outside and other fires. These fires resulted in an estimated 6 civilian deaths, 70 civilian injuries and $34 million in direct property damage according to the National Fire Protection Association.

Be Prepared, Hurricane Season peaks in September!

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the 2009 season will be near normal with four to seven hurricanes likely.
There are five categories on the Saffir Simpson Hurricane Scale. Category 1: winds of 74-95 mph
Category 2, winds of 96-110 mph
Category 3, with winds of 111-130 mph
Category 4, with winds of 131-155 mph
Category 5, with winds greater than 155 mph.
Names for 2009 storms are
Ana, Bill, Claudette, Danny, Erika, Fred, Grace, Henri, Ida, Joaq
